Heritage journey photography contest debuts

Organised by national carrier Vietnam Airlines’ in-flight magazine Heritage since 2013, the contest aims to raise public awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage and natural values of Vietnam.

Photographers are encouraged to send their photos of historical and cultural relics, art and architectural works, as well as beautiful landscapes till July 31 at the latest.

The award-winning photos will be featured in different publications by Heritage, offering readers, including foreign visitors, a good insight into Vietnamese people and their rich culture, as well as the country’s stunning landscapes.

A total of 16 prizes worth more than VND250 million will be granted. The best photos will then be picked to be put on display at an exhibition, which is scheduled to take place in late September.

The contest, the ninth of its kind, is to celebrate the 30th founding anniversary of the Heritage magazine.

Exhibition shows Vietnamese resilience and bravery in air defense

A month-long exhibition telling the story of Vietnamese resilience, creativity, and bravery in a 12-day air defense against the US troops was launched on December 5. The campaign, widely known as “Dien Bien Phu in the Air,” was a defense operation launched by the Vietnam Air Force and ground-based air defense against US air raids by B52 bomber – the most modern aircraft of the time – on Hanoi and neighboring cities and provinces. Exhibition on the history of Vietnamese lotus flowers opens

The exhibition “Hanh Trinh Di…” or “A Journey…” by painter Nguyen Thị Thuy Huong will open on December 23 at 45 Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. Painter Nguyen Thi Thu Huong with one of her favorite lotus flower artwork. Photo Ha Nguyen Huong’s 40-painting collection depicts stories of lotus flowers in different places and landscapes, inspiring viewers with unforgettable feelings. The paintings include “Lotus by the Perfume River”, “Lotus along Thames River”, “Learning from Lotus,” and “Lulling Lotus”, among others. Exhibition spotlights Buddhism in Vietnam

The objects and photos on display reflect Buddhist thought, philosophy and spirit, and honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) since its inception in November 1981.    Notably, they feature Buddhist popularisation in remote, border and island areas, including the nine islands in Truong Sa (Spartly), along with international cooperation in promoting Vietnam’s Buddhism to the world.   This is the first-ever exhibition that introduces all dignitaries of the Patronage Council, the Executive Council and other units of the VBS since the council was founded, as well as 13 departments and 63 provincial chapters of the council, according to Most Venerable Thich Tho Lac, head of the VBS’s cultural department.   Nearly 1,100 delegates from across the country will attend the ninth National Buddhist Congress, scheduled for November 28-29 in Hanoi.   During ...
