This contest is not merely an artistic endeavor, but a tribute to Hanoi’s liberation and a testament to its enduring legacy as the nation’s cultural epicenter. Hong further emphasizes the competition’s role in showcasing the elegant lifestyle and deep-rooted cultural pride of Hanoi’s residents, as well as the city’s preservation of artistic traditions over millennia.
The “Voice of Hanoi 2024” promises to be a platform for discovering fresh, young talent, enriching the nation’s artistic landscape. People’s Artist Quoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music and jury representative, details the competition’s structure: “There will be a preliminary, semi-final, and final round, culminating in the selection of 12 exceptional singers across three music genres – chamber, folk, and pop. We will also recognize the best performance about Hanoi and the most popular contestant.”
The contest is open to Hanoi residents aged 16-35, as well as notable singers from across the country who wish to pay homage to the capital through song. Finalists will be recommended for Youth Union activities and city initiatives, and young winners will be awarded scholarships to fuel their artistic passions, as Hung explains.
“The Voice of Hanoi” has been a pioneering singing competition in Vietnam since its inception in 1994, launching the careers of numerous renowned artists. Over the years, it has evolved beyond a mere talent search, becoming a nurturing ground for the country’s most brilliant musical talents.
Some of Vietnam’s leading singers, including People’s Artist Tan Minh, Meritorious Artists Dang Duong and Viet Hoan, and divas Hong Nhung and My Linh, attribute their success to this competition. Singer Khanh Linh, who rose to fame after winning in 2000, serves as a testament to the competition’s legacy.
