Vietnam’s First Locally-Owned Semiconductor Plant: A Landmark Achievement

The groundbreaking ceremony was graced by the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung, President of Ho Chi Minh City’s Vietnam National University, Vu Hai Quan, and Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Pham Duc Long. This event marked a significant milestone and a step forward in Vietnam’s semiconductor industry development.

With an investment capital of approximately 100 million USD for phase two, the facility will cover 30,000 square meters within the CT Group High-Tech Development Centre in Thuan An, Binh Duong Province. This includes the cost of constructing a clean room, purchasing machinery and equipment, and acquiring intelligent factory management software.

Scheduled to commence operations in the final quarter of 2025, the plant is projected to attain an impressive annual capacity of 100 million chips by 2027. CT Semiconductor’s CEO, Azmi Bin Wan Hussin Wan, shared his vision at the ceremony, stating that by September 2025, the first chip will be fully assembled, packaged, and tested in Vietnam by a wholly Vietnamese-owned OSAT company.

This achievement will be a testament to the intelligence and boundless potential of the Vietnamese people. It will also play a pivotal role in advancing Vietnam’s chip industry, with over 10% of its capital and revenue allocated to research and development, especially in cutting-edge technology.

The plant is strategically located at the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai, offering excellent connectivity. It is in close proximity to academic institutions, including Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City, and is easily accessible from Song Than Railway Station and Tan Son Nhat Airport. With a strong workforce comprising over 1,000 workers, technicians, and engineers, the facility will foster research and provide internships for local universities, laying the foundation for Vietnam’s goal of training 100,000 semiconductor engineers.

The CT Group Chairman, Tran Kim Chung, emphasized the importance of government support in developing Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, drawing parallels with the successful experiences of the Republic of Korea, China, and Taiwan (China). He expressed his hope for substantial financial backing over the next decade to help Vietnamese semiconductor companies become globally competitive.

CT Semiconductor’s plant is an integral part of CT Group’s high-tech ecosystem, connecting advanced technology projects in semiconductors, UAVs, AI, and electric trains. This integration creates a closed-loop value chain, from chip design to overseas photolithography processing, packaging, and testing, thereby fostering the growth of a robust tech ecosystem for both the group and the country.

The plant also serves as a source of inspiration for Vietnam’s youth, symbolizing the nation’s ascent towards technological self-reliance and the realization of fully Vietnamese-led innovation. Additionally, it plays a strategic role in Vietnam’s international cooperation, drawing insights from the successes of Malaysia and Singapore in the global OSAT market and the leadership positions held by Malaysians in global tech giants.

CT Semiconductor is at the forefront of research in cutting-edge technologies, including GaN, Photonics, and Advanced Packaging, as well as designing complex chips for future applications. With the recent inauguration of the CT INNOVATION HUB, a unique high-tech ecosystem is taking shape, paving the way for Vietnam’s technological advancement.

The exhibition “Hanh Trinh Di…” or “A Journey…” by painter Nguyen Thị Thuy Huong will open on December 23 at 45 Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi. Exhibition spotlights Buddhism in Vietnam
